JAC claims body

Following an agreement between the JAC formed in connection with the alleged custodial death of Heikham Nando and Assam Rifles authorities today the former has decided to claim the body of the deceased person.
Consequent to the truce Nando's corpse has been claimed on completion of post mortem examination at RIMS Morgue today.
Sources informed that representatives of the JAC and Assam Rifles deliberated on the issue of Nando's death subsequently reaching an agreement under which the Assam Rifles will sponsor education of Nando's two children upto class XII and provide a suitable job to the victim's younger brother.
Customary compulsion has also been cited as an important factor in the JAC deciding to claim the body, with a source explaining that rituals of one of Nando's close relative, who passed away recently, could not be completed until cremation of Nando's remain.
It may be mentioned that Nando was picked up by an Assam Rifles team stationed at Khurkhul area on November 25 evening, before he was declared dead the next day.
