Doctor, driver remanded for alleged blackmail

A senior resident surgeon of JNIMS and his driver were reman-ded into four more days in police custody (till March 30) by the Judicial Magistrate, First class, Imphal West II today for alleged blackmailing and sexually assaulting a married woman.
40 year old senior resident surgeon of JNIMS, Dr Pukhrambam Kiran (40) s/o Dr P Brajamani of Wangkhei Yonglan Leirak, was arrested on March 17 and remanded into police custody till today.
His driver/co-accused Norel Sorokhaibam Meitei (24) s/o Leishang Sorokhaibam of Chairel Makha Leikai was arrested yesterday by a team of Nambol PS in connection with the case.
Kiran was produced before the Court after comple- tion of his police custody period today and his driver was produced with him, along with a prayer for further police custody remand of the two individuals.
After perusing the case records and after hearing counsels of both the sides, the Court was satisfied with the police prayer and thus remanded the alleged accused doctor into 4 days police custody remand till March 30 .
During the proceedings, the IO of the case, through the APP, submitted that the accused driver was arrested yesterday at around 4 pm, by a team of Nambol Police based on the complaint lodged by the victim after Kiran admitted to working with one of his staff in allegedly blackmailing the victim using her nude photographs.
Accordingly, Kiran's personal driver, Norel Sorokhaibam Meitei was arrested and after proper enquiry, an i20 car used in committing the crime, was also seized by police.
The IO conveyed that on preliminary interrogation, Norel Sorokhaibam admitted that he accompanied the doctor while allegedly dispersing nude photographs of the victim.
After going through the submission of the IO and the case records, the Court remanded the accused doctor and his driver, the co-accused, into four more days in police custody.
