State police and Assam Rifles troops have reportedly rounded up over eight activists of different armed outfits, including a self styled Lance Corporal of KNF (P) allegedly involved in the recent abduction of a Branch Manager of SBI, Leimakhong.
According to SSP (IW), the arrested KNF (P) cadre SS L/Cpl (Army No.504) Henkholen Kipgen (30) s/o Somang Kipgen of Gangpijang village under Saikul police, disclosed that under his instruction Pvt Seiboi Haokip of Masemjang village near Kwakta, Lenin Kipgen of Keithelmanbi and Lelen Kipgen of Bongbal Khullen of KNF (P) abducted the SBI Branch Manager from Leimakhong and confined the said individual at Motbung area.
Henkholen further revealed that on late night of November 15, the captive Manager was released after prolonged negotiation yielded a ransom amount of Rs 23 lakhs from the victim's family which was exchanged at Saikul area, maintained the SSP in a statement issued tonight.
It is informed that out of the ransom amount Rs 7 lakh was utilised in purchasing two AK series rifles and one .32 pistol through Lelen Kipgen with another sum of Rs 10 lakhs reportedly paid to one Hechen of Churachandpur as advance for acquisition of weapons.
While the three persons directly involved in the abduction of the Branch Manager split Rs 3 lac a similar amount was handed to his (Henkholen) wives identified as Henei and Lulun of the same locality, the SSP further stated adding that the five accused persons are still at large.
One Chinese hand grenade with detonator and a mobile phone handset have been listed as the items recovered from Henkholen's possession, whose place of arrest was not disclosed in the SSP's statement.
The same statement revealed about the arrest of two KYKL activists by district police commandos from Keishampat near Hotel Excellency on November 22 at around 5.15 pm.
The arrested duo has been identified as Huidrom James alias Abungcha Meitei (25) s/o (L) H Sarat Singh of Singjamei Liwa Lambi Sorokhaibam Leikai and Ongnam Nimita Devi (22) d/o (L) O Biren Singh of Singjamei Kshetri Leikai.
One Chinese hand grenade with detonator, a mobile handset and one Red Colour Access scooter were recovered/seized from the possession of James, who was assigned by one Kumar, SS Project Officer of KYKL, to extort from Government officials and contractors of Imphal areas.
Binita assisted James in the transportation of arms and ammunition, the SSP added.
Meanwhile, troops of 27 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector rounded up a KYKL cadre from Sekmaijin area today.
A PRO IGAR (S) release identified the arrested person as (No.2452) SS Sgt Maj Huidrom Premchand alias Bobo alias Chandan alias James s/o Goajao of Sekmaijin Mamang Leikai.
On the otherhand, Imphal East district police commandos arrested two KCP (KK Nganba) cadres from Koirengei Bazar on November 23 at around 4.35 pm.
Identified as Yaikhom Anil alias Chinglemba (25) s/o Y Deven Meitei of Terapokpi near Phaknung Sagomsang and Thoudam Noren Singh (34) s/o Th Shamungou Singh of Chingarel Tejpur, two mobile phones with different SIM cards were recovered from them, said a statement issued by SP (IE) .
Both were involved in extortion of money from the general public, Govt officials, etc., informed the statement adding that Anil used to work under the command of one Miss Arubam Shantibala Devi (40) d/o A Mani Singh of Uyumpok Nongshum Makha Leikai.
On the otherhand, SSP (IW) has informed that district police commandos apprehended two active members of Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) on November 23 .
It is informed that ZUF's Kinthuilung Kamei alias Athui kamei (37) s/o Kambi Kamei of Keiphundai, Tamenglong district was hauled up from Kakhulong Gate, paona Bazar.
Athui joined the ranks of ZUF in 2011 from NNC through one Hemsin Rongmei, 2IC of the ZUF, said the SSP statement while adding that Athui disclosed of handing over a sum of Rs 1.5 lakhs which was extorted from the general public of Tamenglong district, to Hemsin.
One Chinese-made hand grenade and a mobile handset have reportedly been recovered from Athui's possession.
Conveying that another active member of the outfit namely (Army No.158) Kalandi David Gangmei (38) s/o Damdailong Gangmei, who stays at a rented house in Lamphel area was arrested from near DC Office, Lamphel, the SSP said Kalandi disclosed that he along with Kinthuilung came to paona bazar to serve demand letters of Rs 15 lakhs and Rs 10 lakhs respectively to an iron store and mobile store located at Majorkhul.
