CCpur, June 25 2016 :
Rajya Sabha MP from Assam Biswajit Daimary today visited the District Hospital mortuary to pay respect to the nine 'tribal martyrs.' He highlighted the need for a special constitutional provision for the State tribals to decide their own future.
The MP who had already raised the issue of the on-going tribal movement against the three 'anti-tribal' Bills in the Parliament was accorded a warm welcome here along with Romeo Hmar, the Manipur Tribal Forum Delhi (MTFD) convenor, who accompanied him.
They were carried on shoulders in a bamboo stret-cher from the police station till the district hospital mortuary where he addressed the public and handed over a shawl each to relatives of the nine 'martyrs' .
Daimary in his address said he was here to receive a first-hand account of the on-going movement so that he can fittingly raise the issue again during the upcoming Parliament session that is due in the last part of July.
Claiming that he had already raised the issue of the State tribal people in the Parliament and had even called for special committee to study their causes, the MP said he was here to better prepare himself on the issue as his prior request was not heeded to.
He also said that the myriad demands including the sixth schedule in the tribal area sprang due to perceivable insecurity of the tribal people.
'Nevertheless you all are seeking for security.
There should be some Constitutional provision through which you can administer yourself, you can plan and decide the path for your development and you can implement it yourself,' he said amidst a cheering crowds.
He pledged to continue lobbying for the State tribal people until their demands and concerns are addressed and taken to a logical conclusion.
The MP is understood to have held a meeting with the JAC against anti-tribal Bills and several other tribal organisations later in the day but details are not known.
