Imphal, March 25 2017:
A Councillor of Lilong Nagar Panchayat, elected on BJP ticket, has been allegedly abducted by supporters of Lok Janshakti Party (LJP).
The whereabouts of Lilong Nagar Panchayat (Langthabal AC) Councillor Thounaojam Anil (27) of Naran Konjil Mamang Leikai could not be traced.
According to Anil's elder brother Lemba, the Councillor was abducted by LJP supporters last night.
"I searched for my brother and enquired some LJP supporters and their words evoked strong suspicion that Anil has been abducted", Lemba said.
Notably, Lilong Nagar Panchayat has nine Councillors and five of them are BJP Councillors.
Being in the majority, BJP is in power at the Nagar Panchayat but of late LJP has been working to upstage BJP and assume power.
It was in line with their strategy to upstage BJP that Anil was abducted, the elder brother alleged.
Acting on reports that Anil was at Imphal airport this morning, a few people went to the airport but they were assaulted by LJP supporters leaving two persons injured.
On the other hand, supporters of Councillor Anil blocked Imphal-Moreh highway at Kakwa at around 12.20 pm in protest against the alleged abduction.
Even though the highway was blocked for sometime, the protesters were driven away by police.
