Workshop on 'Impact of Chemical Fertilizer & Pesticide" held

A One day consultation workshop on impact of chemical fertilizer and pesticide was held at the Manipur Press Club today.
The event was jointly organized by Samaritan Resource Centre and Centre for Social Development with Kh Nimaichand, APO, MOUCD, Agriculture Department, Dr Khumukcham Ibohal, Associate Professor, Dept of Entomology, Central Agricultural University (CAU) and S Brojen, a farmer from the state participating as presidium members.
A wide range of issues relating to the widespread and unrestrained use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides along with the adverse effects such dangerous practice will bring to the population and the environment were discussed.
A number of speakers expressed their desire for the state government to take initiatives to promote the production and use of Bio-fertilizers as a safer and sustainable alternative, citing real world problem being faced by the farmers of the state at present in timely procurement of chemical fertilizers, and to step up the awareness and training programs for producing various forms of Bio fertilizers such as compost, green manure etc.
and to provide incentives so that people will turn to them for their livelihood and production.
