The United Association of Recognised Schools of Manipur (UARSoM), an umbrella body of hills and valley Government recognised private schools, has appealed the Government and all concerned to look into the grievances of the schools, teachers during the pandemic and provide possible assistance.
Stating that majority of the schools are not able to pay teachers due to lack of resources during the lockdown, the association appealed that the students be allowed to pay 50 percent of the school fees to pay the teachers 50 percent of their salary.
The association understands the plight of the, parents, guardians and the hardship they are facing due to the lockdown.
But, as most of the private schools are run entirely on the fees of the students, the schools are not able to pay the teachers.
Only a few private schools are very well established.
Majority of the schools depend on the students' fees, the association said acknowledging the appeals of many organisations for the wellbeing of the students and teachers amidst the lockdown.
Even as the lockdown has shut schools, the teachers are conducting classes and other academic activities through different media, said the association asserting that allowing students to pay 50 percent of their fees will enable the schools to pay the teachers 50 percent of their salary and ease their suffering due to the lockdown.
UARSoM has held many talks with the authorities concerned recently but so far there has been no positive results, it said appealing the Government to address their grievances at the earliest and allow students to pay 50 percent fees "like other States" .
