Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Dr P Narendra Singh said that the number of doctors who are interested in researching and tackling HIV and AIDS, has gradually decreased during the last 4-5 years.
This conference has been organised to provide necessary training as well as to make the doctors aware of the plight of the people with HIV and AIDS and the current scenario regarding HIV and AIDS, in the hope that it will encourage some of the doctors to take interest in this particular field, he explained.
He continued that unlike the past, people with HIV and AIDS can now live long lives through proper medication.
The doctor further explained that the first case of HIV was detected in Manipur in 1993 and till date, many have succumbed to the disease.
Even if the people with HIV/AIDS can live longer by undergoing treatment, they usually age at a greater pace than other people and they often face other implications or secondary diseases later in life, he explained stressing on the need for more doctors and professionals to be tasked to this particular field.
A souvenir was also released during the conference.
