Girl, raped by father, dies

Imphal, August 22 2022: A 16 year-old girl who was raped by her own father on different occasions and attempted suicide by consuming poison on July 31, 2022 died last night at around 9.40 at JNIMS.

Reportedly, the 'rape victim' died due to kidney failure.

The corpse of the teenager has been handed over to her family members and the JAC concerned after an autopsy at JNIMS mortuary.

Speaking to media persons, an official of the Social Welfare Department who helped in the treatment of the 'rape victim' said that the girl was raped by her own father multiple times since 2016 .

Saying that the 'rape victim' was admitted to JNIMS on the intervening night of August 3 and August 4, he added that they (a team of Social Welfare Department) rushed to the hospital as one unknown person informed about the incident to Thoubal Women police station.

He further stated that the victim and her mother stay-ed at the maternal grand- parents' place for a prolonged period as they could not bear the harassment of her father.

Saying that the deceased expressed her desire to stay in a boarding house to prepare for HSLC examination before consuming poison on July 31 last, he added that the victim's kidneys were damaged as she had been administered a large amount of contraceptive pills in the past.

Meanwhile, co-convenor of the JAC concerned Akoi-jam Chitreshori, while condemning the 'gross misdeed of the victim's father, stated that incidents of such misconduct and crime against women and children are rising in the State.

She then urged the Government to take stern actions against the culprit who defiled his own daughter multiple times.

It may be mentioned that the accused of the case (victim's father) was arrested by the police a few days back.
