Imphal, June 22 2020:
The All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has sought concrete actions against private schools which have failed to submit their management details despite Government's repeated orders.
Out of 1200 recognised private schools, more than 800 schools have defied the orders, said AMSU.
As such, the Government should take up necessary actions against the erring private schools, it added while urging the former to consider for new re-recognition.
Expressing strong suspicion over widespread mismanagements and exploitation of teaching and non teaching staff, AMSU questioned why these schools are shying away from submitting their details to the State Government.
AMSU questioned whether these schools were providing disproportionate and meagre salary to their respective staff although they have been charging high admission and tuition fees and whether they are providing adequate facilities to their students.
Do not commodify the students and turn schools into manufacturing units, said AMSU while demanding all schools to come out with a detailed fee (admission and monthly fees) structure/ break-up from the ongoing session onwards.
The union also lauded the State Government for considering their appeal regarding "fee waiver" for students of private schools during lockdown period and the move initiated by Government to ensure payment of salaries to staff and non teaching staff.
AMSU further urged the State Government to strictly enforce The Manipur Private Schools (Registration and Regulations) Act, 2017 and Hostels/ Boarding Regulation Act from the ongoing session onwards.
The Student Union also appealed to all to join hands and focus on the education sector to eradicate all malpractices that have been hindering the State for long.
The union may be approached in any case of discrepancy regarding any educational matter, it continued.
