Three days cultural fest kicks off at Ukhrul

A three day cultural festival began today with vibrant display of traditional dances and songs from across the country.
The cultural festival under the banner 'Discover North East' was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul, Modak Hrisheekesh Arvind at Bakshi Ground Hundung, Ukhrul.
To explore the rich culture of the far flung areas, day 2 and Day 3 of the festival will be held at Longbi and Talui village of Ukhrul district.
This is the first time that the cultural show is being held in the district.
"It is to encourage our local artistes and artisans to present their talent and rich traditional culture of their respective tribes", said the DC while addressing the inaugural function.
The DC also extended a warm welcome on behalf of the district to all the visiting troupes from different States participating in the three days cultural event under the common vision 'Discover North East' .
The cultural festival focuses on strengthening unity through cultural exchange programme, said the DC and added that the three days event will go a long way in fostering unity in the country.
The Deputy Director of NEZCC, D Vashum in his keynote address highlighted the main activities of the department and explained that the festival is being held to encourage and promote the culture of different tribes or communities of the North East.
NEZCC also supports the young and promising youth, who are talented in traditional songs, dances and arts etc to help them get National or international recognition.
Various schemes and benefits have also been awarded through NEZCC.
Troupes from Nagpur, Kolkatta, Allahabad, Mizoram, Sikkim, Tripura and Imphal displayed their traditional dances at the indoor stadium, Bakshi ground Ukhrul.
Over 500 officials including the SDOs of Ukhrul, Chingai, Phungyar, and DLOs of Ukhrul attended the inaugural function.
The programme was organized by NEZCC, Ministry of Culture in partnership with Department of Arts and Culture, GOM and Ukhrul district administration.
