Growing Ukhrul traffic congestion studied

Ukhrul, June 21 2022:
The Small Town Committee (STC) under Autonomous District Council, Ukhrul on Tuesday organised a one day awareness workshop on traffic regulations at DRDA Conference Hall, Mini Secretariat office at Hamleikhong, Ukhrul.
Ukhrul CEO David Kashungnao in his keynote address talked on the need to systematically streamline traffic regulations to ensure public safety and road congestion.
He said the workshop has been convened by inviting experts and also to seek the opinions of the public.
The CEO said that Ukhrul district headquarters has seen a rapid rise in the number of vehicles in the last few years and added that the growing traffic congestion and over speeding has led to the loss of many lives.
Scientifically regulating traffic movement is the need of the hour, he added.

Resource person H Chiphang RO district police talked on the New Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act-2019 and urged the people to be wary of the different laws that are passed.
Traffic offenders need to be hauled up and penalised with hefty fines, he added.
District Transport Offcer (DTO) Rahman deliberated on the need to ease traffic congestion and added that High Security Number Plate (HSNP)/IND is a must.
Such a number plate helps the police identify the moving vehicle easily, he added.
Online Vehicle Registration at the respective district will help to reduce vehicle theft cases.
The responses from the public on the interaction session were recorded and minutes will be discussed while formulating traffic regulations in Ukhrul town, assured CEO David.
Ukhrul police, DLOs, local taxi union members, vehicle owners, Tangkhul CSOs representative members, village leaders participated in the workshop.
