Former MLA Ibohalbi too succumbs to Covid

Former MLA Dr Irengbam Ibohalbi succumbed to COVID-19 at a private hospital here this afternoon.
Ibohalbi is the third former MLA to succumb to COVID-19, the other two being Vivekraj Wangkhem and Laishom Lalit.
The 66-year old former legislator of Irengbam Awang Mamang, Bishnupur district was brought to Shija Hospitals and Research Institute on May 16 and he expired at the same hospital this afternoon.
After serving as the Project Director of Manipur AIDS Control Society (MACS), Dr Ibohalbi was elected to the State Assembly for the first time from Oinam AC in 2007 .
He was re-elected from the same Assembly segment in 2012.Dr Ibohalbi is survived by his wife and three children.
Chief Minister N Biren has deeply condoled the demise of the former legislator.
Recalling his political career, the Chief Minister said that Ibohalbi started his with the MPP then joine All India Trinamul Congress, INC and then NEIDP.
During his days in the Assembly, Ibohalbi was the ever vigilant voice of the Opposition, said the Chief Minister and added in death, the State has lost a leader whose departure has left a huge void.
On behalf of the BJP led Government, the Chief Minister conveyed his deepest condolences and shared the grief and pain of the bereaved family members.
Meanwhile, Congress party has expressed deep shock and sorrow over the sudden demise of Dr I Ibohalbi.
In a condolence message, MPCC president Govindas Konthoujam said that Congress party would always fondly remember Dr Ibohalbi and his works.
Manipur has lost a dynamic, political stalwart in the demise of Dr Ibohalbi, said the MPCC president.
He also conveyed solidarity to the bereaved family.
Langthabal AC MLA Karam Shyam has also condoled the demise of Dr I Ibohalbi.
Dr Ibohalbi's activities as a politician and his ideas and thoughts would always be remembered, Shyam said.
Dr Ibohalbi who grew up as a medical professional was the founder member of Bishnupur Lions Club.
He was also associated with many other social organisations.
