Imphal, March 19 2020:
A team of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) visited Chassad village today and distributed edible items to the villagers whose houses were set ablaze during an inter-village feud on Monday.
Speaking to media persons after distributing the relief materials, senior Congress MLA K Govindas lamented that the violence and arson that took place at Chassad was very tragic.
It was very painful to learn that violent confrontation broke out suddenly between two villages which have been living together in peace and harmony since many years back, Govindas said.
He said that the MPCC team talked with leaders of both the villagers and appealed to them to avoid such violent confrontations in future and also to live together in harmony as usual.
Leaders of both the villagers assured the MPCC team that they would put in all efforts to avert such conflicts in future, Govindas conveyed.
"As decided at a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party held on Tuesday, we went to Chassad to extend certain aid to the victims of the violent confrontation", said the senior Congress MLA.
One common desire of the villagers are compensatory assistance from the Government and opening of a permanent security post in the area.
Police personnel stationed at the area are armed with only lathis, he said.
Exuding confidence that the Government would provide all possible assistance to the victims apart from deploying adequate strength of security force, Govindas said that Congress party would extend full support to all initiatives of the Government aimed at rehabilitating displaced villagers.
He said that they would submit a tour note about their visit to Chassad to Chief Minister N Biren.
The MPCC team included MLAs Yamthong Haokip, Fajur Rahim, O Surjakumar and ex-MLA Victor Keishing.
