Imphal, December 18 2016:
The Naga People's Union Imphal (NPUI) and the Tangkhul People's Organisation Imphal (TPOI) have appealed to all concerned to lift the ongoing indefinite economic blockade as well as the counter economic blockade imposed in different pockets of Manipur Valley.
Speaking to media persons at their Nagaram office today, NPUI president M Ngaranmi, speaking on behalf of the two organisations, appealed to both the parties to lift the blockade as well as the counter blockade at the earliest in the interest of the public.
Confiscation of goods from people heading for Ukhrul and setting ablaze 22 vehicles at Heikrumakhong were quite disheartening, Ngaranmi rued.
He then appealed to all concerned to avoid such unwanted incidents in future.
Ngaranmi expressed keen desire for the hill people to take up all possible measures to avert such untoward incidents in hill areas and Meitei people to take up similar measures in the valley.
Most of the people who were heading for Ukhrul today were students and professionals studying/working outside the State.
They came home to attend Christmas and New Year festivals.
They were stranded at Imphal for the past couple of days.
Both NPUI and TPOI would like to convey solidarity all the bereaved families of the three police men killed in two ambushes in Tengnoupal, he said.
He also prayed that the police personnel who were injured in Noney attack on the same day may recuperate speedily.
