Abducted man rescued

One non-local scrap (metal) collector who was reportedly abducted for a ransom of Rs 20 lakh has been rescued by Imphal West district police.
Police teams led by Additional SP (L/O) Dr Sarangtham Ibomcha and Additional SP (Ops) Thokchom Vikramjit launched extensive operations since this morning and they were able to rescue the abducted man after several hours from a hilly area, about 2 Kms from Longa Koireng.
The man rescued from the hands of unidentified armed persons has been identified as one Md Jakir Hussain (33) s/o Md Abdul Manan from Daunpur, Mursidabad district, West Bengal but presently staying at Mantripukhri, informed a source.
After rescuing Md Jakir, police continued the search operations in order to nab the abductors.
Md Jakir Hussain was abducted by two unidentified persons from near Longa Koireng bridge at around 8 pm yesterday.
As informed by one individual who appeared to be a tribal, Md Jakir and four others went to collect metal scraps in a mini-truck from Mantripukhri at around 4 pm yesterday.
At around midnight, Jakir Hussain informed his wife Thoibi through mobile phone that he had been abducted from Longa Koireng bridge by some unidentified persons and he was being held captive at an unknown place.
The unidentified persons, apart from demanding Rs 20 lakh in ransom, also threatened to kill Jakir if information about his abduction was given to police.
Nonetheless, Thoibi filed a report at Patsoi police station which was followed by extensive search operations by Imphal West district police, added the source.
