Imphal, October 18:
The recently formed Internally Displaced Naga Welfare Association, in coordination with the Tangkhul Working Committee, staged a mass rally, attended by over 3000 people at Ukhrul district headquarters this morning to pressurize the district authorities to provide relief material to the people who had fled the Imphal valley during the anti-ceasefire extension movement in June and July this year(2001).The rally which started from the Ukhrul Tangkhul Long ground approached upto the office of the DC, Ukhrul, and submitted a memorandum seeking provision of relief material for these "internally displaced" people.
A similar rally was also taken out at the Chandel district headquarters today by the United Naga Council, Chandel branch.
Reports said the rally, which was attended by around 300 persons, began a; the Maria Union High School and proceeded upto Japhou bazar.
On the other hand, due to heavy rainfall, another such rally planned to be taken out at the Senapati district headquarters could not be held.
