Imphal, September 18 2024:
While serving an ultimatum to KNO to identify and punish offenders who attacked its president T Michael Lamjathang Haokip within a week, the Thadou Students' Association (TSA) General Headquarters has urged the State Government to hand over the case to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) .
In a statement, TSA said it is enraged by the State Government's inaction and failure to timely apprehend and prosecute those responsible for the repeated arson of the residence and terror attack on its president T Michael Lamjathang Haokip on May 7, August 25 and August 31 .
The failure in arresting perpetrators who repeatedly attacked T Michael Lamjathang Haokip may be because of the weakness and incompetency of the Churachandpur police and district administration to enforce rule and laws on the ground despite the will of the State Government, said the TSA.
The Chief Minister, on August 26, had promised to take legal action against the perpetrators of the crime and terror attacks.
However, there has not been any significant progress in the investigation so far.
This gives a bad impression to leaders and members of other indigenous communities that Kuki militants are able to target leaders advocating peace without any consequences, it said.
Further asserting that the KNO and local civil organisations of Peniel village are morally responsible for the attacks on Michael, TSA said it expects a favourable response from the KNO--identify the offenders and bring them to justice within a week from September 16 .
The TSA and the Thadou community will not compromise but continue to lawfiilly fight for justice.
TSA shall not be held responsible for any outcome resulting from a "failure to heed to our request", it said.
