Imphal, December 17 2012:
All Advocates of the State including that of Lower Court have threatened to join the strike launched by High Court Bar Association if the authority fails to address their demands.
Addressing a press meet today at the office of High Court Bar Association located at High Court Complex, Advocate Khaidem Mani registered strong opposition to appointment of Judges from other States in the proposed separate High Court for Manipur against the State quota.
He warned that all advocates of the State would join the stir of HCBA if the authority concerned turns a deaf ear to the demands for non-absorption of Judges of other States in the High Court of Manipur and for establishment of the High Court with seven Judges.
The association has also expressed disappointment over the silence maintained by Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court AK Goel, who is here to inaugurate Court Room at Senapati and Chandel, over the matter of the demand for a seven-Judges High Court in the State.
Members of the High Court Bar Association have been launching a strike since last month over the demands for non-absorption of Judges of other States in the High Court of Manipur and for establishment of the High Court with seven Judges.
The North Eastern States such as Assam, Nagaland, Tripura, Meghalaya, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram have been alloted a total of 24 quota of Judgeship.
The break-up of State wise quota of the NE States are Assam-11, Manipur 4, Mizoram-1, Arunachal Pradesh-1, Nagaland-2, and Tripura-3 .
Though the State is allotted 2/4 Judges in the Common High Court, only few persons are appointed as Judges, Advocate Khaidem Mani said.
Alleging negligence of the people of the State all along in the matter of elevation as Judges of the High Court and all vacancies in the quota of Manipur stand usurped by Assam since 1972 to date, the Advocate also demanded that no Judge from the common Gauhati High Court be absorbed in the High Court of Manipur except those elevated from Manipur.
