Source: Hueiyen News Service

Imphal, August 17, 2012: Suspected armed cadres of NSCN-K shot dead the State Secretary of Zeliangrong Students' Union, Manipur (ZSUM) and a cadre of the rival NSCN-IM believed to be the Finance Secretary of the outfit at Nungkao village under Tamenglong district at around 7 pm yesterday.

Nungkao village is located about 90 kilometres away to the east of Tamenglong district head quarters.

According to police reports, the slain Secretary of ZSUM has been identified as Chunthuingai Kamei (32), s/o Makuphun of Marangjing village near Noney while the slain NSCN-IM cadre, believed to be the Finance Secretary of NSCN-IM, Zeliangrong region, as one Zianao Rongmei (40), s/o Chamkhandai Longmai of Ramgaijang village, Jiribam.

According to reports reaching Hueiyen Lanpao, Chunthuingai Kamei was staying in Nungkao village to inspect construction of roads in Nungkao and Tousem.

Zianao Rongmei, who came from Bamgaijang Village was staying together with Chunthuingai Kamei.

The suspected armed cadres of NSCN-K, number around 10 of them, came and abducted both of them from their house and shot them dead.

Meanwhile, condemning the brutal killing of the duo by suspected NSCN-K cadres, all shops and business establishments in Tamenglong bazaar remained closed down today and the entire Tamenglong district head quarters wore a deserted look.

All the educational institutions in and around the district headquarters were also closed for today.

The dead bodies were brought to Tamenglong district head quarters today afternoon.

Along with carrying the dead bodies, a protest rally is expected to be taken out in the district headquarters tomorrow.

On the other hand, ZSUM has strongly condemned the killing of Chungthuingai Kamei, State Secretary of ZSUM, by suspected UG cadres at Nungkao village along NH 37 near Jiribam yesterday.

In a statement, David Kamei, Information and Publicity Secretary, ZSUM said that even after Chungthuingai Kamei told the armed cadres that he was a student leader and not a UG, no attention was given to him and he was shot dead then and there.

"ZSUM is aggrieved over the murder without warning which was very inhumane and there is no logic in the unwarranted offence against the student leader who had worked hard to bring peace among different UG factions" said the statement.

It further informed that ZSUM volunteers have started blockade on NH 37 with immediate effect and the same would continue till an amicable solution is brought about.
