AR, police bust NSCN (R), ZUF camps

Jiribam, November 16 2019:
Two camps of insurgent groups National Socialist Council of Nagaland (R) and Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) located in the thick jungle of Ramgaizang area which lies under Jirighat police station, Lakhipur Sub-Division of Cachar District, Assam have been busted by troops of 37 Assam Rifles and personnel of Jirighat police station.
It was stated that the operation was jointly launched yesterday night in the thick jungles of Ramgaizang area of Lakhipur sub-division and two makeshift camps used by NSCN(R) and ZUF cadres to carry out their activities in Zeliangrong region were destroyed.
In the operation, two cadres were apprehended and they were identified as Pougonglong alias Lucky (28) s/o Gongkinlong of Nungtek village, Tamenglong district, and Sagu Rongmai (40) s/o Aningdon of Ramgaizang Part 2, Cachar district.
It is said that Pougonglong alias Lucky is S/S 2 Lieutenant of NSCN (R) while Sagu Rongmai is S/S Captain of ZUF.
Sources said that both the arrested individuals were involved in illegal extortion, kidnapping and criminal activities in Zeliangrong region.
It was also reported that two other persons managed to flee away from the camps.
The search operation is still going on to nab both the fled away cadres.
Altogether one 56 rifle, 20 rounds of 7.62 mm, 123 rounds of 5.56 mm, extortion slip book, mobile phones and various household items were recovered from the busted camps.
