Action Plan on Climate change to see the light of day soon

The State government has taken up steps to implement the State Action Plan on Climate Change, which was instituted in Manipur to combat the problems being faced by the people on account of drastic changes in the climatic condition, very soon.
According to report received from Department of Forest and Environment, Government of Manipur, over the years, people of the state have been experiencing drastic changes in the climatic condition due to various reasons, particularly discriminate felling down of trees and construction of houses over any empty spaces in the name of development as well as burning of jungles and clearing of forest area for economical development.
Taking into consideration of all these factors, the State Action Plan on Climate Change was instituted and now it is in the process of implementation.
The report further stated that the impact of the change in the climatic condition, which is being experienced globally, has also reached the tiny state of Manipur.
The recent 'famine-like' situation in the state following scarcity of rains is a good example of the impact of climatic change in the state.
The State Action Plan on Climate Change would be focusing on various issues like � livelihood, water resources, agriculture, health, forest and biodiversity, energy, urban planning and strategic knowledge, it added.
As part of the Action Plan, the report further said that the Department of Forest and Environment, Government of Manipur, will be taking up certain steps to re-develop 19 vanished or vanishing lakes in the state.
These include Lamphelpat, Yaralpat, Pumlenpat, Ekoppat, Waithoupat, Ahongbikhong, Ushoipokpi, Sanapat (Andro), Utrapat, Loktak, Tangkhapat, Kanampat, Heingangpat, Lamdabungpat and Sanapat (Bishnupur), which are in the four valley area apart from Zeilad lake in Tamenglong district, Zaimeng lake in Senapati district and Khayang lake in Ukhrul district.
It may be mentioned that the State Action Plan on Climate Change was initiated by the Department of Forest and Environment under the supervision of the State Government along with consulting an outside firm to combat the negative impact climate change and save Manipur.
With finalization of the Action Plan after a series of consultation meetings, the only thing left now for its implementation is the approval of the Advisory Board chaired by the Chief Minister.
