Imphal, February 16 2017:
The Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) has appealed to all non-local people who have filed nomination papers to contest the ensuing State Assembly election to withdraw their nomination papers by February 18 .
Speaking to media persons at their Sega Road, Konjeng Hazari Leikai office today, JCILPS convenor in-charge BK Moirangcha reiterated that no non-local people should contest elections held in Manipur until Bills necessary to protect indigenous peoples are passed and converted into Acts.
JCILPS would not remain silent if non-local candidate(s) do not withdraw their nomination papers when there is still time.
Non-indigenous communities to which the non-local candidates belong should also persuade the candidates not to contest the ensuing State Assembly election, Moirangcha said.
Meanwhile, a large number of Meira Paibi activists today staged a protest demonstration in front of the Chief Minister's official residence under the aegis of the Socialist Students' Union of Manipur (SSUM ) .
The protesters were demanding that the State's administrative power should not be handed over to non-local people and non-local people should not be allowed to contest elections held in the State.
SSUM publicity secretary N Tanoranjan said that it is their primary duty to safeguard the indigenous people of Manipur as non-local people have taken complete control of the State's economy whereas incessant influx has resulted in demographic imbalance.
