Imphal, January 16, 2011:
In view of the existing financial condtion and the development status of Manipur, there is a need to formulate a special economic policy for the State to accelerate the pace of development, stated MPP Legislature wing leader O Joy.
Joy was speaking at a one day political conference organised by MPP Singjamei Kendra Committee at Singjamei today on the topic Economic Development and Peace in Manipur'.
The Government of India should formulate a special economic policy for the North Eastern States with reference to the North East Vision 2020, Joy said.
For economic development of a State, it is a prerequisite to have a popular, sincere and transparent Government.
Economic prosperity and social welfare cannot be realised without politics.
That is why, eco-politics' is gaining prominence.
As the North Eastern States including Manipur are lagging behind other Indian States in terms of economic development by about 30 per cent, the region demands a perspective on regional politics.
Observing that the chasm between the rich and the poor are widening day by day, Joy asserted that economic change cannot be realised without politics.
He also highlighted the need to go in for a political negotiation, in order to resolve the political conflict between India and Manipur.
MPP vice-president Y Khemchand said that lack of employment have led to the increase in the number of poor people thereby severely affecting economic condition of the State.
Under such situations, the State need to formulate an economic policy of its own.
