48 hour general strike called

The JAC constituted in connection with the killing of Md Hasmad Ali alias Babu of Keirao Makting Awang Leikai has announced a 48-hour State-wide general strike with effect from 5 am of November 16 against the Government's callous attitude towards its demands.
A decision to this effect was taken in a public meeting conducted by the JAC at KMYC ground Keirao Makting today, said a statement.
The Government has not taken up any action regarding the incident although the JAC had submitted memoranda to Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, DGP and Imphal East SP, the statement said.
Saying that no school, college, office and market must be opened during the stir, the JAC said that the Government must be held responsible if any unwanted incident happens during the general strike.
Meanwhile, AMMSO, UMWDC, MMWO, Anjuman, AMMUCOC and MCM have also pledged support to the general strike.
Another JAC statement informed that fire service, medical emergency, religious activities and media would be exempted from the purview of the general strike.
