The founder managing director (MD) of a micro-financing private bank has alleged gone hiding after duping the customers of a huge amount.
Laishram Surjit (29) of Thoubal Wangkhem Huidrom Leikai, who is the founder MD of The Livelihood Advancement MicroFinance (LAM) having its office at Khurai Lamlong has reportedly collected around Rs 20 lakhs from a large number of customers from different parts of the State on false promise of providing business loan.
Talking to mediapersons in this regard, Huidrom Sumi Devi, who is the manager of LAM said that Surjit has gone hiding after taking all these amount for the last 6 months.
The amount have been collected from the unsuspecting customers as margin money of the business loan amount to be given to them, Sumi disclosed, adding that besides pressure from the customers for refunding the amount taken from them, Surjit had also threatened the staff of the bank when they confronted him over the issue.
At the time of joining the bank, Surjit had also taken money from the staff, Sumi disclosed.
Informing that the bank has been in operation for the last 14 years, Sumi further disclosed that the bank has another branch at Sekmai but it has been put under lock and key by the customers.
Meanwhile, two women self help groups based at Wangoi have taken serious note over the development in the bank and demanded that Surjit refund the amount taken from the unsuspecting customers at the earliest possible.
