Imphal, December 14 2024:
A discussion programme on "A call to reason, pray and act for a better Sanaleibak Manipur" was held today at the conference hall of Diocesan Social Service Society at Mantripukhri.
Organised by the All Manipur Christian Organisation (AMCO), the programme was attended by Meetei and Naga leaders.
The programme began by observing silence for two minutes in honour of the victims of the crisis besetting Manipur since May 3, 2023.Speaking at the function, AMCO president Pastor L Simon Raomai said that the programme was held to discuss the means to bring peace in Manipur which has been witnessing a cycle of violence.
Many people have been killed in the course of the violence while several others have been driven out from their villages, he said and added that some internally displaced people had also committed suicide and the same was disheartening.
Expressing discontent over Prime Minister Narendra Modi not uttering a single word to end the conflict let alone visit the State, the Pastor maintained that the legislators in Manipur have also failed to douse the flame and build confidence among the people.
The crisis has confounded the people of Manipur as there still is no solution in sight, he continued.
Cries of suffering and separation have enveloped the State, the Pastor said.
Saying that a plan of action must be worked out among the AMCO, Naga and Meetei leaders to break the cycle of violence as the Government has failed to do their part, he said that Manipur will fall into greater chaos if the violence persists.
He reiterated that the programme was held to exchange views on how to stop the bloodshed among the Church, Naga and Meetei leaders.
The Pastor said that more discussion programmes will be held on the similar topic in future.
Saying that more conflicts may take place among different communities if there is no understanding, he added that dialogue is indispensable to restore normalcy in Manipur.
