Gaikhangam calls for peace

Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam has appealed to all concerned not to resort to any thing that can disturb the peaceful co-existence of all communities of the State.
He was addressing the closing function of the two-day Zeliangrong Folk Festival organised by Society for Promotion of Community Task (SPCT) at Namching Keithelmanbi today.
The Deputy CM said Zeliangrongs are peace loving and religious people while also maintaining that the community has rich cultural heritages.
Stressing that all communities of the State should strive to preserve and maintain their respective identities, Gaikhangam urged all concerned not to resort to any activity that can breach the communal harmony of the State.
He exhorted all to contribute for the unity, welfare, development and strength of the State.
He also appealed all members of the Zeliangrong community residing in various nook and corner of the State to carry the message of peace, unity and solidarity and pledge to work for the protection of the State's integrity.
Speaking at the occasion, IFC Minister Ngamthang Haokip said Zeliangrongs are peace loving and cordial while urging them to preserve their rich cultural heritages in times to come.
Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai urged the people to show love and warmth while also informing the gatherings about the various schemes undertaken by the Social Welfare department.
The programme was also attended by MLA and MTDC Chairman T Manga Vaiphei, MLA Janghemlung Panmei and MLA RK Imo.
