Speaking at the occasion, PC Lawmkunga said a peaceful, stable and secured public and social life is needed to develop the State or a district or a region.
Dwelling on the Look East policy, Lawmkunga said no country could remain isolated if it wants to grow educationally, socially and economically.
All countries need to promote mutual understanding and mutual cooperation to achieve all-round development.
It is with this principle that the Government of India devised the Look East policy so as to enter understanding with the ASEAN countries, he said.
Stating that the main focus of LEP is on trade and commerce supported by science and technology, Lawmkunga said Manipur can play a number of roles and reap the benefits since Myanmar is the gateway to access all ASEAN countries for India.
Neighbouring State, Mizoram is preparing expeditiously itself to benefit from the policy after constructing Kaladan Multi-modal Transport System from Sittwe in Myanmar to Chhimtuipui district in Mizoram, he said while adding that Manipur should not lag behind.
He stated that the NE States, which contributed about 4% of the total population of the country, should try to make concerted efforts to promote the common goods in the interest of the people while also pointing out that students could become a catalyst to accelerate the pace of development and growth in all aspects.
PK Jha noted that the percentage of administrators or engineers or white-collar jobs produced by the district is below average.
He also observed the weakness of the students of the district in maths and science.
Keeping that in mind, the district administration would arrange a residential coaching camp for students which will specially focus on English, Maths and Sciences beginning from January next year, the DC said.
In the evening session, a debating competition on the theme, 'Alternative Arrangement is the legitimate rights of the Southern Nagas,' was held.
