Imphal, July 13 2016: Statues of a Gorkha freedom fighter Subedar Niranjan deserved to be set up at Imphal and Charhajare, IFCD Minister Ngamthang Haokip said today.

He was speaking at the 203rd birth anniversary observance of Nepali writer Bhanu Bhakta Acharya at Charhajare community hall which was jointly organised by Nepali Sahitya Parishad and Navin Gorkha Youth Club.

Offering of floral tribute to the photograph of Bhanu Bhakta Achary a, reading and recitation ofhis poems and presentation of songs marked the birth anniversary observance.

Speaking at the occasion, IFCD Minister Ngamthang Haokip said that the statue of Subedar Niranjan deserved to be set up at Imphal and Charhajare.

He said that he highlighted the matter to the Chief Minister.

Ngamthang also recalled the contributions of Bhanu Bhakta Acharya to the Nepali community in the field of literature.

The programme was attended amongst others by Nepali Sahitya Parishad president Lok Bahadur Basnet and All Manipur Gorkha Students' Union secretary Lok Bahadur Adhikari.
