Bio-resources summit

The 1st National Bio-resources and Sustainable Development summit will be held in the State from February 19 to 20 .
This was stated by Institute of Bio-resources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Imphal Director Prof Dinabandhu Sahoo during a press conference held in this regard at his office chamber today.
Prof Dinabandhu Sahoo said that the summit would help the people of the State to know more about the bio-resources found in the State as experts would deliver lecture and present papers on various topics during the two-day event.
Since the past many years, IBSD has been doing research not only on the bio-resources found in Manipur but also in other States of the North East.
Saying that the State has the potential to become a terminus for bio-resource products, Prof Sahoo said that there is the need to understand this opportunity by the people of the State.
The press conference was also attended by Abhiram Seth, former Executive Director of Pepsico India and MD of Aqua Agri Private Ltd.
Abhiram Seth said that during his stay in the State in the past few days, he has come across the bio-resources available in Manipur which can be used for the better economical growth of the State.
He added that they are doing research on the bio-resource products which can bring economic growth.
Abhiram Seth said that people of the State mainly practice paddy farming alone and leave their paddy fields empty despite the availability of a large quantity of bio-resources.
He also urged the people of the State to use the bio-resources as a means to enhance the State's economy.
