Imphal, May 12 2024:
Intimidation, violence and use of force will not resolve the crisis.
It is time a proper dialogue is initiated to resolve the crisis and restore peace in Manipur, said Shiv Sena State president M Tombi today.
Speaking to media persons at Shiv Sena Bhavan, Imphal, he said the conflict has dragged on even after a year with no sign of a solution in sight.
He accused the Government of not taking any proactive steps to end the violence and resolve the crisis.
"What is the Government waiting for? What does it want to achieve that it has not ended the crisis? When is it going to resolve the crisis?" Tombi asked.
He further commented on the threats to drivers plying the National Highways.
He said Shiv Sena has been for years urging the Government to establish a Highway Protection Force to secure the highways.
However, the Government has remained adamant and not yet taken up any steps to this end to secure the vital roads.
He said the threats posed by armed miscreants on the highways has affected the people of the State, specially those in the valley.
The two highways - Imphal-Jiribam road and Imphal-Dimapur road-must be secured.
These are the lifelines of the people of the State, he added.
If the Government still remains adamant to act on the issue, Tombi asserted that the Shiv Sena and like minded groups will start taking the responsibility of guarding the Imphal-Jiribam Highway soon.
If the highway is not secure, it will worsen the woes of the people, he said, seeking people's support in securing the Imphal-Jiribam road.
Tombi further stated that the crisis Manipur is facing today is a result of lack of proper monitoring of illegal influx of immigrants from Myanmar and Bangladesh.
The collection of biometrics of refugees from Myanmar must be done strictly, he added.
He also stated that the unprecedented hailstorm and rainfall which caused calamities in Manipur are results of rampant deforestation and forest fire in the hills.
