Court fixes charge hearing against 3 cops

Imphal, December 11 2019: Session Judge, Imphal West, has fixed January 20 next year, for the consideration of charges levelled against three cops by CBI/ SIT in connection with the death of one Ningthoujam Khaiba in an alleged fake encounter/extrajudicial killing on November 13, 2006.All three cops, then Havildar Khundongbam Inaobi of Yairipok, then Head Constable Thounaojam Herojit of Lamdeng Awang Leikai and then Constable Longjam Chingkheihunba of Keishamthong Longjam Leirak, appeared before the Court today along with their respective counsels.

It may be mentioned that Ningthoujam Khaiba alias Binoy of Keirenphabi was reportedly gunned down by a team of Imphal West commando on November 12, 2006, a few hours after he was released from Manipur Central Jail, Sajiwa and returning home with his father and advocate in a Maruti Van, near NG Mani College.

At that time, the family members alleged that a team of commando personnel stopped their vehicle near NG Mani College and shot dead Khaiba on the spot after pulling him down from the vehicle.
