Imphal, November 11 2024:
Rampant monetary demands amid the ongoing Manipur conflict have peeved teachers' community prompting its apex body, COTA to appeal to civil bodies, NGOs and armed organisations to avoid exerting "unbearable pressure for monetary donations' .
COTA--the Council of Teachers' Association-in a statement, said it is peeved with the rising trend of disturbances in the schools' academic atmosphere.
It said, the teachers' community has been lending voluntary contributions towards the victims of the ongoing crisis either in cash or kind, and extending support and cooperation from time to time to all the frontal organisations.
Nonetheless, unbearable pressure has been exerted on the teachers for monetary donations in the name of the ongoing crisis.
This has caused immense stress and anxiety among the teachers, COTA said.
"Our efforts to make education a free disturbance zone is unwavering.
We will continue to work for upliftment of Govt schools education to bring about a drastic change in conformity with NEP-2020.The Council of Teachers' Association (COTA), being an apex body of teachers fraternity under schools education in Manipur, appeals to all the CSOs, NGOs and armed organisations not to exert unbearable pressure for monetary donations in the name of the ongoing crisis," it appealed.
COTA has been extending helping hands right from the beginning.
Any assault to any individual teacher is a matter of great concern, it said.
"We stand for upliftment of the society as our responsibility.
Any further harassment on any teacher may compel the teachers' community to take up stern steps," COTA said, requesting all the stakeholders to support and safeguard the dignity of the teachers' community.
