NIA trial against UNLF begins

Guwahati, December 10 2012:
Trial against 18 accused members of proscribed UNLF including its Chairman RK Meghen alias Sanayaima under NIA special case no 1.of 2010 begins from today at NIA Special Court, Guwahati.
Two prosecution witnesses namely Mahesh Chandra Das and Md.Mukshed Dewan were examined as prosecution witness no 1 and 2 on the first day of the trial.
Speaking to media after coming out from appearing in the NIA court, Meghen referred to the news reports about abusing and passing lewd and racist comments to a Manipuri girl in Bangalore and said that it shows the incorrigible racist attitude of mainland India against Mongoloid faces of Western South East Asia (WSEA).
He further asserted that security forces deployed in Manipur have racist attitude towards the people of the state and cited the instance of RIMS massacre where security force opened indiscriminate firing after sorted out people with Indian looks.
The anti-terrorism operations in North Eastern India are carried out with the same racist attitude.
On the prevailing conflict situation amongst the different ethnic groups in Manipur, the arrested UNLF chief maintained that it is deep rooted conspiracy of Government India and called upon the people to stand united beyond the regime of Government of India's ploy of divide and rule policy.
The Meitei community are also fighting for the protection of the territorial integrity of Manipur.
In the trial, Senior advocate DK Das appeared on behalf of prosecution and Advocate S Lakhikanta Singh, Advocate H Chandrajit Sharma and Gunedhor Moirangthem on behalf of the accused persons.
On 24 December 2012, the accused will be produced before the NIA Special Court and four prosecution witnesses would be examined on January 8, 2013 .
