Senapati, August 10, 2012:
Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) today imposed a "lightning bandh" for 3 hours at Senapati District headquarters to protest the alleged assault of SDSA officials by suspected armed KRA cadres yesterday at Composite Taxation Gate located at Hengbung in Senapati district.
All business establishments came to a halt during the short bandh today.
With the arrival of SDSA volunteers, 5AR personnel and Senapati Police, the matter was put under control.
The police have also assured the agitators that the case will be investigated.
According to SDSA, the SDSA officials who were on their way back home yesterday around 6.15 pm from Imphal after an official work had asked the staff of the Composite Taxation gate located at Hengbung along the NH-2 to open the gate for them, which was closed even for public passage.
Minutes later, some armed cadres of an underground group operating in the area appeared and pointed guns at SDSA members.
The armed miscreants had also opened indiscriminate shots before fleeing the site.
Meanwhile, the SDSA and NPO held an emergency meeting at SDSA Head office after the incident and strongly condemned the attempt to shoot SDSA officials.
The two apex bodies in the meeting demanded the KRA, a militant group under SoO agreement, to clarify the matter immediately or face public unrest to which the KRA will be held solely responsible for any untoward incident.
The SDSA has also asked the Taxation officials and police team present at Hengbung to immediately clarify the incident or face serious public outcry.
The students' body today decided to file an FIR into the matter and pursue necessary action within two days time.
The SDSA has also alleged that, such incident is not new to the citizens of Senapati when KRA cadres in arms and groups incited incidents of public harassment and physical assault have been reported to the organizations.
The SDSA has asked the District Administration and Police authority to intervene into the matter without further delay.
No arrest has been made till the time of filing this report.
