Imphal, November 09, 2013:
Stating that the State Government led by O Ibobi has not written a single letter to the Government of India so far to highlight people's apprehension about loss of Manipur's territory on account of border fencing along Manipur sector of Indo-Myanmar border while at the same time claiming that it would leave no stone unturned to preserve territorial integrity of Manipur, MPP has categorically stated that it would never go together with the Congress Government on the issue of border fencing.
A press statement issued by MPP spokesperson Heigrujam Nabashyam asserted that Chief Minister was be-fooling the public by claiming that his Government would do anything to preserve territorial integrity of Manipur.
Even if other parties did not understand the Congress party's deceitful tactics, MPP can see through it very clearly.
After a joint team of different political parties visited the border fencing site and confirmed that people's apprehension about possible loss of Manipur's territory was real, MPP sent a representation to the Prime Minister of India to halt the border fencing work, the Prime Minister's Office instructed the Ministry of Home Affairs to take up 'appropriate action' on September 4 last.
In the meantime, an all political party meeting was held at Keishampat and adopted a resolution similar to the representation MPP sent to the Prime Minister.
The meeting also agreed to ask the State Government to convene all political party meeting in order to discuss what the State Government had done on the issue of border fencing.
Subsequently, an all political party meeting was held in the Chief Minister's office on October 10 followed by an all party delegation visiting the border fencing site on October 22. After coming back from Moreh, a drafting committee was constituted to draft a memorandum for submission to the Prime Minister.
It was during this intervening period that Deputy Chief Minister and MPCC president announced that the issue of border fencing would be reflected in the Congress manifesto which was an obvious to take political mileage out of the issue, MPP asserted.
It further pointed that it was the Congress led UPA Government which was constructing the border fence and again it was the Congress Government of the State which was claiming to put a halt on the border fencing work.
Such contradictory positions adopted by Congress party is an open act of befooling the public, it asserted.
As for MPP, it would consult the people on what it should do with regard to the issue of border fencing, it added.
