Cabinet nods to regularisation of lecturers

The State Cabinet has given its consent to regularise 418 part-time lecturers of 28 Government colleges and 714 contract lecturers of Higher Secondary Schools.
A Cabinet meeting was held today with Chief Minister O Ibobi in the chair and adopted a resolution towards this end.
Talking about the Cabinet meeting, Government spokesman M Okendro informed that the Government has agreed to create 290 posts of teachers in addition to the existing 182 approved posts for 12 aided colleges of the State and also 90 other non-teaching posts.
Regularisation of 418 part-time lecturers as Assistant Professors would entail extra expenditure of Rs 17,80,37,816 annually, Okendro stated.
A Cabinet meeting held on September 2, 2014 decided to create a number of Assistant Professor's posts for Government colleges.
Out of the many posts agreed by the Cabinet 418 were for part-time lecturers while 285 posts would be filled in by way of direct recruitment through MPSC.
Likewise, the State Cabinet earlier decided to create 933 posts for lecturers of Higher Secondary Schools.
Out of them 714 posts were reserved for contract lecturers while 217 posts would be filled in by way of direct recruitment through MPSC.
Regularisation of the 714 contract lecturers would mean extra expenditure of around Rs 16 crore annually.
The Cabinet meeting further agreed to regularise 13 contract teachers of Heirok High School.
The State Cabinet also resolved to rationalise the Manipur State Power Distribution Company Limited's existing manpower in addition to creating 680 new posts for direct recruitment, Okendro added.
The decision of the Cabinet comes close on the heels of the Chief Minister managing to break the ice with the agitating teachers of six Government aided colleges.
Over 400 teachers from six aided colleges have been on strike pursuing a number of demands.
