Abduction of the Sadar Hills ADC Vice Chairman by a UG group under SoO pact on March 19, the case of gang-raping a married woman by four individuals including two IRB personnel at Nungleiband at about 2 am of March 22, arrest of eight IRB personnel by Assam Rifles along with ephedrine and other drugs on Moreh road on April 2 and taking ransom from a driver by four police personnel led by one Inspector on the charge of transporting red wood were the incidents listed by the Home Minister.
In the first incident, the issue was tackled most tactfully and the Government succeeded in securing safe release of the abducted man.
As security personnel were involved in the other incidents, necessary procedures have been initiated to punish the rogue security personnel.
The security personnel involved in the Nungleiband gang rape have been suspended and sent to jail.
Earlier, many security personnel both guilty and innocent escaped punishment after reaching Court, Gaikhangam stated that he has directed the Bishnupur SP to conduct a thorough investigation and frame an explicit chargesheet so that the culprits do not go scot-free this time.
It is the Court, not Home Department to punish a guilty person according to law.
Nevertheless, Home Department has been thoroughly investigating into the incidents to frame explicit chargesheets so that the culprits cannot escape punishment.
Talking about transportation of drugs on Moreh road by eight IRB personnel, Gaikhangam conveyed that he directed the DGP to send an ADG and investigate into the matter.
Subsequently, the eight IRB personnel were pulled up and sent to jail.
He stated that no efforts would be spared to see that all the eight IRB personnel are punished in befitting manner according to law.
Likewise, four police personnel led by one NAB Inspector who were accused of taking ransom from a truck driver on the charge of transporting red wood have been suspended today.
Maintaining that police personnel were found involved in such unlawful activities because of several flaws in the schooling of Manipur Police, the Home Minister pledged that all these flaws would be examined and redressed accordingly in addition to awarding exemplary punishment to all the guilty personnel.
Gaikhangam stated that he would not shield police personnel involved in unlawful activities but rather work to ensure that they are punished according to law.
