Imphal, February 09 2020:
Even though seven samples sent from the State to the National Institute of Virology, Pune have been found negative for coronavirus, a total of 187 people are being kept under surveillance of health workers.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, Health Director Dr K Rajo said that health workers have been closely monitoring health conditions of 187 people who went to China, Hong Kong and other foreign countries recently.
There is correspondence between district surveillance officers and the head office on daily basis.
As of now, there is no case of any single person in the State who has a history of visiting China's Wuhan, Dr Rajo said.
Saying all the seven persons whose samples have been tested negative for coronavirus are medically sound and stable, the Director informed that the Health Department has nonetheless taken up all pre-emptive measures.
Regarding import of second-hand/used clothes from China, the Health Director conveyed the observation of the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare that there is no harm in importing used or second hand clothes from China as the particular virus cannot remain alive for long under normal conditions.
Even if imports from China should be banned in view of the outbreak of coronavirus, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare will come out with a clear instruction, Dr Rajo added.
