Imphal, January 09 2019:
Strongly condemning the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2019, Shiv Sena Manipur State Unit has appealed the Government to revoke the decision and to review the impacts and repercussion of the said Bill in the North East region.
Speaking to media persons at the party office at Babupara today, its president M Tombi said that the passing of the said Bill in the Lok Sabha was a black day for the entire North East.
The passing of the Bill, at a time when Assam is trying to eradicate the problem of illegal migrants, is a huge blow to the efforts to protect the indigenous people.
Similarly, considering imminent impact on Manipur as a result of the Bill, the State Government must also take up necessary steps to ensure the survival of the indigenous people, he added.
Claiming that Shiv Sena came in the State with the aim of saving the indigenous communities of Manipur, Tombi said that the party will collaborate with various CSOs, organisations etc so as to protect the people.
As the ILP Bill is not yet given approval, it will be overpowered by the newly passed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, he added.
Tombi continued that similar to the stand of the party's MPs against the Bill, Shiv Sena Manipur State Unit will also oppose the Bill.
Narrating how Chief Minister N Biren Singh announced that saving the State is more important than his post on May 13 last year, Tombi demanded the CM to show his assurance in action and not just words.
Considering the threat posed by the Bill to the indigenous people, it is the need of the hour for a meeting of all political parties, he added.
Demanding the Central Government not to keep speaking different words and promises at various places, the Shiv Sena Manipur State Unit president explained that it will not be a wise choice to completely disregard the sentiments of other political parties which are allied with the NDA Government.
It is highly necessary for the Bill to be reviewed properly.
The Government must bear the responsibilities for any unwanted incidents which may erupt in the North East region, he added.
