Saying that the tribal people in Manipur are bereft of welfare schemes meant for them since May 3 last year, the Manipur Naga Youth Organization (MNYO) has urged the Government to appoint a new Tribals Affairs and Hills Minister in place of the incumbent Letpao Haokip.
Addressing a press briefing at Manipur Press Club today, MNYO president Thotreingam Keitangnao said that Tribals Affairs and Hills Minister Letpao Haokip who also holds the portfolio of Horticulture and Soil Conservation hasn't taken up any welfare programme since May 3 last year and the same has inconvenienced the tribal population to a great extent.
Keitangnao went on to state that the Minister (Letpao Haokip) is defunct and as such he must be replaced.
He further said that Letpao Haokip has been out of station for over a year and the same has greatly inconvenienced the tribal population in Manipur.
The crisis in Manipur hasn't stopped yet though it has crossed the one year mark, the Naga youth organisation leader said while reiterating its demand to appoint a new Tribal Affairs and Hills Minister.
Stating that the Naga youth organisation has submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister N Biren Singh with a list of demands including appointment of new Tribal Affairs and Hills Minister, he cautioned that they will take up a series of actions if their demands are not entertained.
He however clarified that the Naga youth organization has no ill-feeling against any individual or political party or group in particular.
