Letpao flags off buses for stranded people

Water Resources and YAS Minister Letpao Haokip today flagged off two buses for the evacuation of Manipuris stranded in Guwahati due to COVID-19 lockdown.
The buses will bring back 46 persons belonging to Chandel-41 AC (Assembly Constituency).
The Minister flagged off the buses from his residence at Koirengei.
The 46 persons include students, people working in Guwahati and those who went outside for medical treatment.
Speaking to media persons, Letpao said that these persons will be tested for COVID-19 when they return and they will be quarantined at quarantine centres as per Government guidelines even if they turn out to be negative.

They are likely to be housed at Chakpikarong Higher Secondary School, St Joseph's School of Sugnu, Khambaron BDO Office, JNV Chandel and District Hospital, Chandel, he said.
The Minister added that he personally arranged the evacuation bearing all the expenses.
He also appealed Manipuris stranded outside to register on www.tengbang.com, the platform set up by the Government or approach the representatives/members/officials of the consultative committee formed by the Government.
The Minister also appealed public not to stigmatise and traumatise those individuals returning from outside.
People should cooperate and show them empathy, he said.
Government, legislators, public leaders, CSOs etc should extend their best possible help to the Manipuris stranded outside in such critical times, as they are being subjugated to racial discrimination too, apart from many other usual inconveniences amid the lockdown, he added.
Meanwhile, Sekmai AC MLA H Dingo Singh also flagged off a bus from Senjam Chirang Club ground to bring back 47 people stranded at Radha Kund in Brindavan.
They had gone on pilgrimage.
The 47 include people from Sekmai and other regions, said source.
A bus with which they went and the additional bus flagged off today will bring them back, said the source.
On the other hand, six individuals stranded in Assam have urged authorities concerned and Government to intervene and evacuate them.
One of the six, Shijagurumayum Ranjit Sharma, s/o (L) Sh Ibohal Sharma said that they have been stranded at Manipuri Hotel, opposite Diphu Railway Station, Karbi Anglong, Assam.
