Contraband items set ablaze

Ukhrul/Thoubal, April 08 2013:
Over 2500 kg of contraband ganja and 1.3 kg of opium, that were seized from different places in the district during the period 2011-2013 were set afire today at Ukhrul district headquarters while IMFL worth Rs 1 lakh were burned at Thoubal.
At Ukhrul the contraband items were burned in the presence of Chief Judiciary Magistrate, Ukhrul, Pemmila and OC of Ukhrul Police Station, P Longpinao.
Most of the items were seized by Assam Rifles personnel posted in Ukhrul and handed over to Litan PS, Chingai PS, Somdal PS and Ukhrul PS, 11 individual smugglers were also penalised in this connection.
The items were set afire following a Court direction for its disposal after undergoing verification process.

All the arrested persons were booked under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Act, the police said.
Meanwhile, India Made Foreign Liquors worth Rs 1 lakh were burned down by Thoubal police today.
The liquors were seized by a team of Pallel PS led by SI Dhanabir under the supervision of Thoubal SP, Dr Ak Jhalajit.
The liquors were seized from the residence of one Mayanglambam Tomchou (45) of Kakching Sumak Leikai yesterday around 9am.The seized items included 24 bottles of RC, 57 bottles of BP and 58 bottles of Signature.
The contraband items were today set ablaze at Thoubal PS in the presence of Excise Dept officials and media persons.
