Imphal, February 08 2025:
Even as revolting MLAs are camp-ing here in Imphal, Chief Minister N Biren Singh and Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla have rushed to Delhi, apparently summoned by BJP Central leaders.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh left Imphal for Delhi at around 7.45 pm on a chartered flight.
Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla was reportedly in Kolkata on his way to Imphal when he turned back to Delhi mid-journey.
The Governor was in Delhi for a couple of days and was on his way to Imphal today, a day ahead of his schedule.
As per his original schedule, the Governor was to reach Imphal tomorrow and attend the closing ceremony of the EIFF at MSFDS.
The urgency and sudden turn around by the Governor from Kolkata coincided with Chief Minister N Biren Singh's urgent flight to Delhi and it may be related to the political crisis brewing in Imphal, said sources.
While the reason behind CM Biren's back-to- back visit to Delhi has not been disclosed, sources said, the CM may meet key BJP Central leaders.
Earlier, the Chief Minister was summoned to Delhi on February 5 for a possible talk with Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
During the visit, the CM met BJP NE in-charge Sambit Patra, who later held separate meetings with Rural Development Minister Yumnam Khemchand and MLA Th Radheshyam, who were also summoned to Delhi.
With Y Khemchand and Th Radheshyam insisting on the Central leaders to change Manipur Chief Minister before the State Assembly starting February 10, the meetings failed to cut ice and the Union Home Minister refused to meet all parties--Chief Minister N Biren Singh and the revolting MLAs.
Meanwhile, with the Centre's unwillingness to change CM and its inability to rein in revoting MLAs, the chance of N Biren Singh facing a no-confidence motion is rising.
In the meantime, speculations are running high that the Centre may keep the State under animated suspension, said sources who are familiar with the State's political dynamics.
