Proposal for setting up model library sent to Ministry

With the implementation of National Mission on Library all over the country, a proposal for setting up of a model library in the State has been sent to the Union Ministry of Culture.
According to an official source, various works have been taken up for development of libraries in all states under the National Mission on Library.
A newly constructed building located inside the complex of Manipur State Central Library has been chosen for development into a model library of the State.
A proposal for development of necessary infrastructures in the library has been sent to the Ministry of Culture.
As per the proposal, the model library will have specialized system of lighting and seats with facility for high-speed internet.
It will also have separate sections for senior citizens and children.
Development of the model library will be started as soon as the Ministry approves the proposal.
This model library will help to inculcate reading habit among the people of the State, the source said.
Presently, the State Central Library has a capacity of 40 seats with about 1600 borrower's card holders.
The borrower's card can be obtained at a nominal fee of Rs.20, which is to be renewed annually.
The State Central Library has been rendering commendable service to a good number of students and senior citizens.
