Imphal, October 06 2013:
A six-day workshop on 'Fundamentals of Digital Film-making (cinematography)' organised by Educational Multimedia Research Centre got underway at the Udusat Hall of Manipur Department, Manipur University today.
the workshop inauguration programme was held this morning with Padmashree H Kanhailal, workshop host Director Dr N premchand and eminent cinematographer Bharat Nerker as the chief guest, president and guest of honour.
While theatre exponent Kanhailal defined theatre as more of a play by active actors in front of an active audience whose perception or sense is very important, Bharat Nerker stated that space and time are very important in filmmaking.
Those who can manipulate these two (space and time) can become a good filmmaker, said Nerker, an FTII graduate who is credited for the success of popular television serials like Chunauti, Amanat, Virasat, Campus, Challenge and Humrahi.
Terming visualization as another very important component of filmmaking, he also pointed out the difference in looking and seeing reminding aspiring cinematographers to be mindful of the these aspects.
In his presidential address, Dr Premchand conveyed that workshop being held from today is a follow-up event of the documentary filmmaking workshop organised earlier in March.
Noting that in Manipur most video filmmakers do not undergo relevant training programmes, he also regretted lack of initiative by the Government to include filmmaking as an academic discipline.
Further stating that flourishing video filmmaking sector is an indication that there are enough talented filmmakers in the State, the Director also informed that Manipur University is seriously planning to open Post Graduate Diploma course in electronic media.
The workshop is being attended by 54 aspiring filmmakers.
