Imphal, August 06 2024:
Indefinite bandh will be imposed on Imphal-Ukhrul road starting 5 am of tomorrow (August 7), said village volunteers of Lamlai Assembly Constituency.
The bandh has been called against the failure of the local MLA to keep his promise to station State security forces at Yaingangpokpi Uyok Ching, they said.
Speaking to media persons, Lamlai Kendra Village Volunteer Force's comman-der-in-chief, Yumkhaibam Bosan said Kuki militants fired several rounds of bullets on Meitei settlements August 3 night till dawn.
On August 4, the village volunteer force and local leaders approached the local MLA and urged him for deployment of State security forces within 2 days.
The MLA then gave his words to station State security forces on Yaingangpokpi Uyok Ching within 2 days, he said.
They have been forced to impose the bandh due to the failure of the MLA to act on his promise.
The bandh, however, will not affect emergency services, he said, appealing to CSOs for support.
He also urged the Government to remove Central security forces from
the region.
