One succumbs

Of the two individuals who sustained bullet injuries in police firing aimed at controlling a public outcry against filming a nude video clip and uploading the same in social media websites, one has succumbed to the injuries.
Lunminsiam (20) s/o Lunpao of Zenhang, Lamka succumbed to the injuries at Shija Hospitals and Research Institute at about 4 am today.
On June 30 last, people staged a violent protest demonstration in front of Churachandpur police station against the nude video clip which went viral.
In order to control the situation, police responded by firing tear gas shells as well as live bullets.
Lunminsiam was hit by a bullet on the abdomen.
He was at first taken to the district hospital for treatment but doctors had referred him to Imphal and was immediately shifted to Shija Hospital that night itself.
Sources said he was in the hospital's ICU ever since.
He is survived by his wife who is bearing their first child, besides four siblings.
He body was buried today at Zenhang Lamka cemetery.
People rose in violent protest on learning that some IRB personnel involved in filming the nude video clip and uploading the same in social media websites were apprehended by Churachandpur Police on June 30 .
The four IRB personnel apprehended in connection with the case are Thiyam Chaoba (47) of Thoubal, Ningthoujam Dokendro (43) of Senjam Chirang, Havildar T Songlian Tungdim (26) of Mata and Havildar Nengsuangmang (35) of Sahei Road, New Lamka.
Attending the condolence meeting at the deceased's residence, Deputy Commissioner of Churachandpur Jacintha Lazarus assured that judicial inquiry would be initiated and those responsible would be punished according to law.
She also said all necessary ex-gratia for those injured and the deceased would be given before July 20 but maintained that the demands of the CSOs for providing Govt job to the deceased's next of kin and awarding compensation of Rs 5 lakhs and Rs 1 lakhs each for those injured during the violence would first need the State Cabinet's clearance.
