Charge sheet submitted against accused cop

Imphal, June 06 2019: A charge sheet was submitted against one Laishram Veejit s/o Dr Laishram Ranbir of Kwakeithel Moirangpurel Leikai, then Sub-Inspector of Manipur attached to 2nd Manipur Rifles, in connection with the death of his cousin brother Laishram Chinglemba on March 29, 2016 .

The charge sheet was submitted by the IO of Singjamei PS, a few days back, to JMIC Imphal West I Court, which went through the charge sheet at length and passed an order for committing the charge sheet and putting it up for trial before the Court of Session Judge, Imphal West.

The Court also directed the case record and charge sheet of the case be sent to Session Judge Imphal West and further informed the Special PP concerned for taking necessary steps.

The Court further ordered the accused to be produced before the Court of Session Judge Imphal West on June 13 for further proceeding.

The accused (who is presently on bail), is presently lodged in judicial custody at Manipur Central Jail Sajiwa in connection with another case taken up against him by Porompat PS.

It may be mentioned that on March 29, 2016, the victim Laishram Chinglemba, was shot dead by the accused (his cousin brother) Laishram Veejit at around 1 pm.

After the crime, Veejit surrendered before Singjamei PS along with the body of the deceased.

At that time, family members alleged that the accused had constantly threatened to killed Chinglemba ever since he (Veejit) returned home after completing his police training at Shillong.

The family members also alleged that the victim was seen being taken away by the accused in his car towards Haobam Marak a few minutes before the incident.

Soon after the death of Chinglemba, angry locals stormed the residence of Veejit and vandalized the house as well as the clinic run by his father.
